A journalist, musician, former day trader and pre-school teacher...I am a freelance journalist in Brooklyn, New York. I've written for ABC.com, the Forward, 24/7, the Brooklyn Eagle, Popmatters.com and EnfuseMagazine.com. I'm currently a student at the City University of New York Grduate School of Journalism. I graduated from the University of Chicago in 1995 with a BA in Jewish Studies. After college, I worked as a pre-school teacher in Chicago and Boulder, Colo. for three years, before moving to New York to become a day trader. I'd like to say it wasn't about the money, but who am I kidding? It was about the money. I traded stocks for eight years and although I hated (not too strong a word) the actual buying and selling, I enjoyed the machinations of the market and, of course, the money. I quit trading in 2006 to become a full time journalist. I don't own stocks, only mutual funds. I vote but I'm not affiliated with any party. I am married to Martina Kucerova, a native of the Czech Republic and a graduate student of biology at CUNY. We met in Boulder when I was teaching preschool. She was the au pair for one of my students. We've been together for nine years. I play bass, co-compose music and even sing a couple of songs for Atlas of Insects. I've also played bass in a number of other bands you've never heard of including in the Lu-Lu's, Airport 77, and the Haycorns. My brother Daniel is also a journalist.
